INFO

If your were to pick a word to describe Arundó's music it would probably be 'Diverse'. As well as an impressive array of Traditional Music from Ireland, Scotland, Brittanny, Peru and Bolivia, Arundó play many of their own compositions.

Based in County Cork, Arundó play an exciting mixture of traditional (original) and contemporary Irish Music (and also dabble with the haunting sounds of Andean music). The band’s sound revolves around the uilleann pipes, the flute, the guitar, the mandolin, and the bodhrán. Over the years, Arundó have jammed with legendary musicians such as Imelda May, Mundy, and members of Elton John’s band. They have played for prestigious occasions such as the UCC Honorary Conferrings where sports stars Brian Cody, Denis Irwin, Ronan O’Gara, Aidan O’Brien and Mary O’Connor were all honoured. Arundó have also entertained well known public figures such as Micheál Martin, John Lonergan, and Sean Gallagher, and are active supporters of The Cork Simon Community and Trócaire. One of Arundó's latest musical projects has seen them provide the entire musical soundtrack to a new DVD promoting Ireland.

Although the primary focus of the group is instrumental, some lively and diverse songs are also included in Arundó's colourful performance. The various members of the group have crossed paths over the years in several different bands and at many a local session. The band was founded by the brothers John Byrne on Uilleann Pipes, Flute, Whistles, Panpipes and Quena, and  Kevin Byrne on Guitars, Mandolin, and Bodhran.

Arundó also regularly play with other musicians such as the acclaimed balladeer, John "Twopot" Horgan, the squeezebox maestro, Ger Murphy, the Sliabh Luachra Musician-in-Residence, Eoin "Stan" O'Sullivan, the "salubrious" Johnny Bongos Horgan on Percussion and Spoons, and the twinkle-toed ceili-instructor William "Hammy" Hammond. The band also works with champion dancers from the Kiely-Walsh Dance Academy.
